Current State

  • After reviewing old posts, I noticed a trend of whining. I didn’t like it.
  • Old posts, portfolios, and pages are archived.
    • I’m not ashamed of the content. It’s just not what I want to reinforce in my mentality.
    • Archive allows me to acknowledge that without looking like I’m retconning my personality.
    • Need to create an archive page.

Future state

We (America) are about to endure another 4 years of the worst president. Life here is not going to be easy, but it does not always need to be unhappy.

Posts will…

Acknowledge the present.

We are in troubling times. To not acknowledge that from time to time is to refuse that it has an impact on my mental state and ignore the context in which I post updates and thoughts here.

Emphasize the positive.

While the next years are extremely uncertain, they won’t be without hope, happiness, and progress. Acknowledging the present adds weight to why hope, happiness, and progress are important. Acknowledging hope, happiness, and progress is way to tell the story of how I am doing more than just surviving the present.

“Above all else, be kind.” – Doctor Who (Peter Cipaldi)

Already, even before the next administration has taken office, their supporters are feeling duped. The administration has already reversed several of the positions it stumped on. The supporters are learning what the rest of America knew: The incoming administration is led by and filled with liars. These people will be hurting as they come to realize what they sacrificed in the name of some petty issues they were promised a resolution on.
The best thing I can do is not Nelson-laugh and point at them. Those disenfranchised people will be needed to put up the good fight. They need to bebrought in from the cold, shown how they can help undo the damage they enabled to be done.
My bitterness, anger and contempt will not help with this. Drumming on the “I told you so” button won’t help them see why the incoming administration is wrong. They are not ready to hear that they were wrong or even accept this idea. Their heads will be filled with undirected anger and confusion for a long time.
Being kind means that I need to let them process their feelings on their own terms. Be available when they do ask for help. And help when it is needed.

Be about how I cope through art and engineering.

Art is about expressing ideas through craft. Engineering is about identifying problems and building solutions. Both allow me to explore my mind and world through a gradual process. Sharing that process could help others find their path.

Show how I make things.

There is an abundance of videos and articles online that demonstrate how to do a thing. This is craft. How do I do things is my craft. More often than not, I have to go through other people’s craft to get to mine. I want to share that evolution with others. More importantly, I want to share with others how I get to my art through my craft.
