Just did a short bit of drawing and I can feel the muscles and joints creak. Granted, I’ve never been good with faces and it was probably ambitious to start . There are so many other body parts that are easier to render. Also, the image I worked from is tiny. But let’s face it, my skills are atrophied. I need to go back to art school. Thankfully, there’s places like Skillshare that can help me rebuild those muscles.
Some thoughts about what I want to achieve over the next year: By the end of 2021, I want to be proficient with small scale sculpting. I will work on dioramas for Halloween and Christmas. The objects in those will be more cartoon that realistic. The idea is to get comfortable with the materials and making process. Then graduate to more figurative works. In parallel to this work, I will dust off the drawing and photography skills.
Secret thought: It bounced through my brain that I should video record this project. Maybe put it up on YouTube (never read the comments). Do I have the skin thick enough for this? Maybe. I’m 50 and my give-a-fuck reserve is pretty low.
