So, a guy with gun nut stickers on his and his unlicensed hand gun in plain sight on the seat next to him tried to get past a security checkpoint by presenting fake credentials. This is how the “revolution” is beginning. Frankly, I think it was a test. Not a benign test by a team involved with securing the Capitol ahead of the inauguration. No. I think this test was by parties needing intel on preparedness of the opposition.
A statistic I heard recently is that there are about 15,000 Army Reserve troops in the US Capitol. That is about three times the number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. Also, this is the first time since 1861 that troops were called into the US Capitol to protect the legislature.
It hard for me to get my head around the enormity of the events that are happening in this country. Less than two weeks ago, a mob of people overran the Capitol Police and invaded the US Capitol building. They were vandals and goons. Some were prepared to take hostages. While within the ranks of the House of Representatives and Congress were people tweeting out the location of key officials.
How did we get here? Bottom line: People in a position of authority were unwilling to call a lie a lie. The burden is on the media and politicians on both sides of the isle. The outbound president is a well-documented liar. This behavior predates his campaign by decades. And yet, people didn’t simply want to call him that from the outset. Had there been more honest fact checking and plain language regarding the president’s statements, The past two and half months would have been avoided. Hell, It is probable that past four years would have been avoided.
Facts are provable. Lies are disprovable with facts. Before disproving a lie, though, one should start by calling a lie a lie. Then present the facts. And never ever call a lie an “alternate truth.” An “alternate truth” or “alternate reality” is either a fiction or a life inside a delusional mind.
It will be decades before the psychology of America is balanced and coping with the same reality. It will take time to bring many of those people back. They have been lied to for so long and have devoured those lies as truth that their minds have stopped accepting facts as nutrition. In the coming years, they will either starve, lash out violently, or change their diets.
