Today, I think I coined the term “brain-wrecked.” It’s a condition of the brain when it has reached a point of no longer thinking clearly and that is about to cause problems.
It’s been a busy day for. Nearly a blur. I started my day like usual: Wake, feed the cats, start the coffee, take a shower. Then I spent about 45 minutes reviewing instructional videos and practicing the Loomis head (need more time with that). After that, I rolled back to my desk, clocked in to the job, and began the days work. This when things get hard.
After reviewing my support tickets, I dig into allocating additional memory and storage resources for server I am trying to setup. Before I know it, it’s time to meet with the vendors and their server admins. That’ when they day becomes a slow smear. We spend the next two and half hours trying to complete the server configuration.
Again, I feel like our pants are down. The IP range the server is meant to monitor doesn’t appear to have any equipment we are looking for on it. The server is unable to reach communicate outside of the corporate network. The evidence from the firewall team, though, is that our attempts are successful, but we never receive an acknowledgement. Then there was the dance with the server certs the vendor needed installed. (fyi – zipping certs without encryption is no mas.) Sussing that out killed thirty minutes.
By the time the call was finished, it was 1:30PM and I was very hungry. The brain only wanted fuel. Concentrating on other people’s problems was just not in my brain’s interest. There was some server admin stuff needed by m boss and the vendor. I packed that up and emailed them the info. Then it was off to the fridge for the easiest thing I could put together: a meat and cheese sandwich and potato chips.
And from the time I woke to now, I have been dealing with a low grade headache.
Tonight, I hope to get a full night’s sleep. Tomorrow, I hope to have the same easy morning. Then do some more server admin work. I just need to ask the right people what’s going on. I have some clues, but I don’t know what they mean in this context.
